Several gold deposits throughout the western Lachlan Orogen display geological, geochemical, and geochronological characteristics that distinguishes these occurrences from orogenic 'gold-only' systems. Distinctive attributes include their invariably close spatial and temporal association with post-tectonic felsic intrusives, disseminated - stockwork style of mineralisation, features of alteration, and complex metal assemblages. Although production from this type of gold mineralisation has been insignificant when compared to orogenic gold deposits in the western Lachlan Orogen, the recognition of intrusion-related gold mineralisation has implications for exploration in this region, and also provides important clues regarding the tectonic framework and evolution of the Palaeozoic in eastern Australia.
