Alfred Stieglitz and Ernest Bloch - Art and hypnosis

In a letter on how he came to photograph clouds, Stieglitz expressed annoyance that Waldo Frank should attribute the power of his photography to his ability to hypnotize his sitters. Stieglitz linked Frank's view with his brother-inlaw's query about why he had given up playing the piano. By some further flow of his subliminal self, hypnotism and piano-playing were associated in his mind with the SwissAmerican composer, Ernest Bloch, befriended by Frank. © 1996 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
