Genetic diversity of cultivated and wild tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum Gaert.) accessions by AFLP analyses

AFLP markers were employed to detect genetic diversity and genetic relationship among cultivated and wild Tartary buckwheat accessions collected front East Asia and other countries. Analysis of 50 accessions of cultivated and wild Tartary with eight AFLP printer set combinations detected a total of 334, hands. of which 121 (36.2%) were polymorphic at the species level. The genetic similarity coefficient for all accessions ranged from 0-11 to 1.00. While GS between accessions among the cultivated Tartary buckwheat accessions ranged from 0.72 to 1.00, GS between accessions among the wild Tartary accessions ranged front 0.31 to 0.88. Shannon's index diversity also revealed that the cultivated Tartary buck-wheat accessions were less diverse than the wild Tartary buckwheat. The phenetic tree with the AFLP fingerprint recognized two major groups at 81% genetic similarity. Group I contained most of the cultivated Tartary buckwheat accessions and three mild Tartary buckwheat accessions. and Group II contained only five wild Tartary buckwheat accessions. Most wild Tartary buckwheat accessions, with several exceptions, were placed distantly from the main cluster of cultivated Tartary, buckwheat. The presenting data on the assessment of genetic diversity and genetic relationships among Tartary buck-wheat accessions will be helpful to build effective Tartary buck-wheat breeding programs in Korea.
