NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION. REALITIES AND PERSPECTIVES

The White Paper of the non -governmental organisations (NGO) sector in Romania shows that 'the agencies involved in environmental protection have been constantly weakened by reducing funds and expertise personnel and by subordinating the independent bodies and all that resulted in a reduced interest in the overall vision of sustainable development and the decreased ability to implement it'. That is why the involvement of each actor is necessary in order to downplay the negative impact of various factors on the environment. As we study the NGOs concern with finding solutions to issues raised by society, we chose to analyse how they get involved as organisations in the activities performed by the civil society to protect the environment. The main objective of this work is to set up a set of metrics in order to assess the level of involvement and to measure the efficiency of activities performed by the NGOs managing environmental issues. In order to achieve this, we have considered identifying the types of environmental actions in which non -governmental organisations in Alba county were involved, establishing the character of the actions (preventive and curative), identifying funding sources, observing the impact of the voluntary activity, displaying and analysing the relationship between efforts and effects of these actions, disseminating the results, finding ways to improve the positive impact of human actions on the environment.
