Reactive stripping in a rotating packed bed for the production of hypochlorous acid

The production of a low-chlorides hypochlorous acid (HOCl) solution has been enhanced by the use a rotating packed bed (RPB) gas/liquid contactor for stripping of HDCl from sodium chloride brine. Not only did the RPB allow a size reduction in process equipment through process intensification, but it also provided improved process performance with higher HOCl yields:while using lower volumes of stripping gas. The combination of these factors has yielded an economically viable process. This report focuses on the development of the HOCl process using the RPB and its scale-up.
