Using the ORC process for waste heat utilization when burning cement clinker

In spite of improved plant configurations and automated process operation of cement clinker bunting there are still considerable quantities of waste heat available in the kiln exhaust gas and clinker cooler exhaust air pones. one appropriate way of utilizing this consists of generating electrical Energy by the "ORC Process " (Organic Rankine Cycle Process). An indication is given below of possible power generating outputs based on the available volumetric flow rates and temperatures at the above-mentioned waste heat sources and a short description of the ORC process. For a plant designed for a clinker throughput of 3000 tld with a time availability of 91 % it is possible to generate about 7920 MWh/a electrical energy from the grate cooler exhaust air and 4800 MWh/a from the kiln exhaust gas at 50 % utilization. The costs are given for installing and operating an ORC plant.
