Compton scattering on a pion and absence of off-shell effects

摘要
It has been shown that off-mass-shell contributions to the amplitude of Compton scattering on a pion may exist only in some individual diagrams. Via one-loop calculations, it has been verified that these contributions are completely canceled in the total gauge-invariant amplitude. This explains, among other things, some results obtained in chiral perturbation theory to order p(4), but the cancellation in question is of a more general character not associated with chiral symmetry.
