A new method for the on-line solid phase extraction followed by high performance liquid chromatographic determination of lead, cadmium and mercury were studied. Lead, cadmium and mercury was pre-column derived by (4-aminophenyl)-porphine (T(4)APP). These chelates can be extracted by Waters Xterra(TM) RP18 (3.9 min x 20 mm) chromatogram column and eluted by tetrahydrofuran and pH = 10 pyrrolidine-acetic acid buffer solution as mobile phase in reverse direction at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min, then separated on a Waters Xterra(TM) RP18 chromatogram column (5 mum, 3.9 min x 150 mm) and monitored by photodiode array detector. This method can be applied to the determination of microamount of lead, cadmium, silver and mercury in water with satisfactory results.
