THE BODY IN KOLA DE SAN JON - CAPE VERDE'S IDENTITY, EXPRESSION AND FREEDOM

This work will analyze the singularities of the religious phenomenon in the Cape Verdean context, paying close attention to the ritualization of identity and its manifestation, with the objective to focus on how different sources of knowledge contributed to formulate its performance. Furthermore, the work of the Portuguese painter Albano Neves e Sousa will be used as an artistic support to structure questions of social behavior and body expression, providing tools for a better comprehension of action and movement, particularly on the case of the umbigada, San Jon festivities characteristic dance, as a living symbol of connection and memory.
