Twenty-five years of annals of emergency medicine: A history

As the past editors of Annals of Emergency Medicine, we find it hard to believe that this publication is 25 years old. Before the journal was inaugurated as the Journal of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the college published the ACEP Quarterly Report and then the ACEP Hotline, a monthly newsletter that kept the membership of the College apprised of the progress of the organization. John van de Leuv and George Fink were the editorial staff of the newsletter/quarterly report for the first issues. Later Dr van de Leuv was the editor and Art Auer the managing editor. There were no scientific articles; these publications existed to share news about ACEP with its members. In them, newly organized chapters were recognized, membership growth recorded, meetings of interest for emergency physicians listed, and proceedings of the scientific assemblies and board meetings published.
