摘要
The role of Arctic glaciers in the Earth's climate system and the changes in the Arctic region was discussed. The Arctic served as an energy sink and provided an early signal of climate change because of feedbacks associated with the high albedo and insulation effects of the snow and ice that blancket much of the region. The ice sheet of Greenland was found to have thinned by 1 m in some locations around the periphery. The satellite-observed changes in the Arctic could be attributed to a variety of factors, such as greenhouse warming, a changing Sun, and natural climate variability.
