New applications of acoustic emission technique for real-time monitoring of material processes

摘要
Acoustic emission (AE) was applied to "evolutive systems" where physical or chemical modifications can occur with time. First, a setting plaster with different grain sizes was tested. Following this, the precipitation of Al(OH)3 and the role of a surfactant were studied. Finally, the drying of a porous ceramic with different pore sizes and initially filled with water was followed. Overall, evidence was obtained that AE can be a useful technique for monitoring in situ, and without any external applied load, the kinetics of materials during processes in ceramic based systems.
