Traffic accidents have become a public nuisance like war, disease and natural disasters, which endanger people's life and possession. It is urgent to predict and prevent road accidents by analysing the factors that influence the accidents. In this paper, about 243 severe traffic accidents were collected from the website of traffic accident network of China and the factors include the accident place, province, road's name, road's type, reason, time, vehicle type and death toll of the accident and so on were mined manually. At last, Cluster analysis, spatial overlay analysis and statistical analysis were performed on the factors retrieved from the accidents. Study shows that the frequency of traffic accident has a close relation with population density, and the accidents mainly occurred in August, October and December from the view of time. In all types of vehicles, buses, SUV cars and trucks are three mostly accident vehicles.
