Adsorption of Pb(II) on photofilm waste from aqueous solution and wastewater

Photofilm industrial waste sludge has been studied as a sorbent for removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solutions. Effects of contact time, initial concentration of Pb(II), adsorption dosage, particle size and pH have been studied. The adsorption follows first order kinetics. The percent adsorption increased from 24 to 82% with increase in pH from 3.5 to 6.0. The adsorption isotherms of Pb(II) were found to follow the Langmuir adsorption model. Specific ion adsorption via chelation followed by ion-exchange reaction appears to be the principal mechanism involved in the process. Desorption studies showed that 72% of Pb(II) can be desorbed from the adsorbent at pH 3.0. The efficiency of the adsorbent to remove Pb(II) was found to be 99% for the wastewater obtained from radiator industry.
