摘要
Nowadays flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices are becoming more and more demanded due to needs to enhance controllability and increase power transfer capability of the grids. The new topology of the transformerless static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) was suggested by Smart Wires Inc. and known as SmartValve. It is based on modular multilevel converter topology of serially connected low-voltage cells. This SSSC can be inserted into highvoltage grid and operate at line potential without connection to the ground as a flexible line reactor or capacitor. However, the control approach for that kind of SSSC has not been widely covered in the literature yet. This paper suggests an alternative PWM-based control strategy for such SSSC. DC link capacitors balancing issues are also considered in the paper. Simulation results are provided.
