摘要
Fixed speed induction generators are used widely in wind farm installations. Their operation is accompanied, with fluctuating wind speeds, transients, and abrupt power variations. The voltage at the point of common coupling with the grid, violates stable voltages limits, even during low speeds, if sustained results in system collapse, and the wind farm will be uncoupled from the system. In this paper static compensators (STATCOM), and static var compensators (SVC) has been used to improve the transient stability of wind farms based on fixed speed wind turbines with adjustable rotor resistance. In MATLAB, the model of the fixed-speed wind turbines is simulated. The simulation verified that the STATCOM and SVC both could be used for the voltage stability. A thorough analysis in MAT LAB concludes that STATCOMs provide fast dynamic response and more improved performance over SVC of the same rating. The simulation results show that STATCOM can effectively help the wind farms send complex voltages after the grid fails, improve the fault ride-through ability of wind farms, ensure the continuous operation, safety, and stability of the grid more effectively as compared to SVC.
