摘要
The late 18th , the 19th century saw the general expansion of schooling. Meanwhile, throughout this process in Spain, Catalan would be excluded from schools. This reality led to an unusual situation forcing teachers to use a language of instruction not habitually spoken by most of the population. In response to this imposition, teachers developed a body of theories, practices, strategies and methods to initially mitigate the situation. They then used this as a basis to question said imposition and support the need for Catalan to be included in schooling and, eventually, become the working language of instruction.
