Theoretical foundations using thermography for nondestructive detection of matrix cracks in woven ceramic matrix composites

摘要
The paper presents the theoretical foundations of two methods of nondestructive detection of matrix cracks in plain weave woven ceramic matrix composites based on thermography. The first method is based on the stress analysis at the tip of the crack. Subsequently, temperature changes related to local crack-tip stresses can be evaluated. The second method utilizes the energy balance and yields an expression for the surface temperature changes due to matrix cracking.
