摘要
Issues of self-esteem and self-confidence play an important role in psychological practice; they form a part of concepts of many mental disorders, they play an important role in education and in psychotherapy. Emphasising the high self-esteem became a part of human and life-style image of the end of the twentieth century. The author evokes the changing interpretation of the role of self-esteem in the relation to the development of certain psychopathology in the connection with the changing cultural and social atmosphere. The self-esteem is understood as interactive and dynamically changing value that can have both positive and negative connotations in human life. The author is noticing the consequences of the demand of high self-esteem in the psychotherapy and the changing approach to some issues of self-concept.
