THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPETITIVENESS AND HUMAN CAPITALFOR ECONOMIC GROWTH

The competitiveness of the Slovak economy is set up in the program and strategy documents as one of the priorities for achieving GDP growth and thus the living standards of population, but its monitoring at the national level brings many problems. Despite the great interest in the phenomenon also from politicians, there is no generally accepted definition as well as a uniform way of quantification, which makes its evaluation and forecasting vagueness. For this reason, our goal of paper is to evaluate the existing competitiveness structure in the SR based on two approaches of quantification and to compare the current situation in the V4 countries and to clarify its interconnections with other significant phenomena which we consider the human capital and the gross domestic product. In analysis of structure of competitiveness in the Slovak Republic, our findings are based on the Global Competitiveness Index created by the World Economic Forum and the Competitiveness Index used by the International Institute for Management Development. Relations between competitiveness, the human capital and the economic growth we verified by the standard statistical procedures.
