The tectonic structure of Tainaro (Mani) Peninsula (Southern Peloponnese, Greece)

The detailed geological mapping in the area between Vathia and Porto Kagio in the Mani peninsula revealed a post-nappe tectonism due to gravity sliding. As a result, the Mani marbles (Plattenkalk-series?) and their elastic sediments (metaflysch?) are found in reverse stratigraphic order (overturned position), appearing in places to overthrust the phyllite-quartzite nappe. Thus, the metaclastic sediments (phyllite-quartzites), that in other locations are referred to as the basement of Plattenkalk, may not be their original sedimentation substratum, and their occurrence may be the result of similar post-nappe tectonism.
