Beta grain growth kinetics in Ti-6Al-4V

Experimental studies of grain growth during beta annealing in Ti-6Al-4V have revealed complicated behaviors. It is found that the simple parabolic growth equation predicts well the growth kinetics in some cases and poorly in some other cases. Based on available experimental observations and computer simulation studies, we discuss two major factors that may have contributed to the deviation from parabolic growth. They are the effects of sample size and texture. Grain growth models that account for these factors are introduced and validated against experimental observations and computer simulations.
