摘要
Delivering serious news to patients and families is an essential communication skill in which providers should be competent. Abundant data speak to the importance of it being done well and support directed training. To help navigate these conversations, models such as SPIKES and NURSE have been developed. By using these 2 models, the provider can respond to the patient's cognitive and emotional needs. Although formalized training is ideal, all providers can use the fundamental components of these models to assist them in delivering serious news in an effective and supportive manner. © 2020 Elsevier Inc.
