Species diversity of natural yeasts in Xinjiang

198 yeast strains were isolated from 52 soil samples of grape orchards, collected from 28 autonomous prefectures or counties of Xinjiang, then parts of the strains were selected according to morphological characteristics. Among them 26s pecies (or varieties) belonging to 12 genera were identified based on the combination of 26S rDNA D1/D2 domain sequence analysis and morphology,and some physiological characterizations. The dominant genera identified were Candida, Pichia and Czyptococcus.Galactontyces geotrichunt and Issatchenkia orientalis were the most widely species distributed naturally. Compared with yeast species published in China at home, 6 China new record species were discoverd which were Clyptococcus uzbekistanensis from Kashi, Issatchenkia occidentalis from Hami, Issatchenkia terricola from Turpan, Shihezi and Bole, Pichia mexicana from Bole, Phichia galeiformis from Kuerle and Bole, Rhodosporidium kratochvilovae from Qitai, respectively.
