First Italian report of Trichinella sp. infestation in horse meat

摘要：
In this study, the First report of Trichinella sp. infestation in horse meat in Italy is described. During routine controls For trichinellosis at the slaughterhouse of Barletta (Bari Province, Apulia region, Southern Italy) muscle larvae of Trichinella sp. were detected in one out of 28 horses imported from Romania. This observation confirms the role of the horse as a reservoir of Trichinella, and a source of infestation for humans. Till now, this role has been assumed according to epidemiological surveys carried out during human trichinellosis outbreaks that have occurred in Italy and France.
