Structure investigation of 2-hydroxy ethyl methacrylate and styrene copolymers by NMR spectroscopy

2-Hydroxy ethyl inethacrylate-co-styrene (H/S) copolymers have been prepared by free radical bulk polymerization at 70 degrees C and their composition has been determined from their H-1 NMR spectra. The reactivity ratios of H/S copolymers from Kelon Tudos and errors in Variables Method are found to be r(H) = 0.64 +/- 0.22, r(S) = 0.41 +/- 0.09 and r(H) = 0.62, r(S) = 0.40 respectively. H-1 and C-13{H-1} NMR spectra have been analyzed with the help of distortion less enhancement by polarization transfer (DEPT), 2D heteronuclear single quantum coherence (HSQC) and 2D total correlated spectroscopy (TOCSY). The carbonyl and methyl carbon of H-Unit and methine, quaternary Carbon Of S-unit have been assigned Lip to triad compositional sequence, whereas methylene carbon resonances have been assigned up to diad cornpositional level.
