摘要：
Incidents of harmful algal blooms occured periodically at many Black Sea resorts in Romania and the Ukraine in the 1970's and 1980's. During that period an estimated 60 million tons of bottom-living, benthic, organisms perished from hypoxia. At times the sea was so oxygen deprived that it could no longer support nonbacterial life.
