A Wireless Transmission Scheme Based on Fountain Codes for Deep Space Communication

A wireless deep space communication and transmission scheme based on fountain codes with unequal error protection (UEP) is proposed to improve the efficiency of deep space communication. The proposed transmission scheme combines cluster layer processing of space communication protocols along with UEP fountain codes. By reinforcing the pre-processing, the anti-interference performance and the transmission reliability are greatly enhanced, and the feedback delay in space communication is reduced. Analysis and simulation results show that the proposed transmission scheme based on fountain codes such as LT or Raptor codes with very low decoding failure probability can reduce the system transmission delay for deep space communication scenarios compared with CCSDS File Delivery Protocol (CFDP).
