Concern with the preservation of heritage: a case study of the Gincisio das Dores in Porto Alegre

This article deals with the study of the importance of preserving historical heritage, highlighting the initiative of Rede La Salle that since 2007 has been involved in the process of restoration and reuse of the Nossa Senhora das Dores Gymnasium, located in the Historic Center of Porto Alegre which was part of the La Salle Dores School until the end of the fifties. The study was developed through research in photos, documents, reports, magazines, school leaflets. In addition to the restoration project and the continuation of this initiative, which was the document carried out by a commission. Interviews were also conducted with Lasallian Brothers. The documents and others can be found in the Central Archive of the La Salle Network. The work concludes that the restoration of the historic heritage of the Rede La Salle and its transformation into a Cultural Center will preserve the memories of the institution and the evolution of its educational work, in addition to giving a new concept to the building, keeping its historical characteristics and strengthening this region economically and socially.
