摘要
Geochemical analysis of core sediments from Barasat, India, a part of the Gangetic plain was conducted. High arsenic content was observed in shallow depth (<70 m). Sequential extraction study revealed association of arsenic with different solid phases in sediment. XRD analysis demonstrated that iron oxides/oxyhydroxides with residual magnetite and chlorite, illite and iron oxide/oxyhydroxide-coated quartz, feldspar are the dominant carriers of arsenic as evidenced by EDS spectra. XANES and EXAFS analysis indicated the dominance of As(III) and Fe(III) implying iron oxides/oxyhydroxides as the main carrier of As in the sediments.
