Water vapour and temperature lidar measurements for the validation of MIPAS/ENVISAT profiles

In the frame of validation activity for ENVISAT ENVIroinmental SATellite - products, water vapour mixing ratio and temperature vertical profiles measured by the atmospheric interferorneter MIPAS, are compared with Rayleigh/Mie/Rainan LIDAR (41.83degrees N, 12.65 E) data. These ground based soundings are performed at the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate of the Italian National Research Council (ISAC - CNR) in Rome. The high spatial and temporal resolution makes the Raman lidar a quite useful technique to validate satellite measurements. In this paper data collected since July 2003 are considered and the results relating to some comparisons for the water vapour and for the temperature profiles are presented. All the observations are complemented with radiosonde profiles.
