The European Commission proposes two guideline projects to encourage the use of biofuels

The European Commission has adopted two projects of guidelines in order to encourage the use of biofuels. According to the first one the Member States would be under the obligation of using 2% of biofuels out of their global fuel consumption right as from 2005, to reach at least 5.75% in 2010. The second guideline proposal plans to perpetuate a favourable taxation framework regarding biofuels. These guideline projects have to be adopted in accordance with the official procedures: EU Council and Parliament for the first one, Council of the Ministers of Finance, where the proposal must be accepted unanimously, for the second one.
