An Energy Efficient Scheme Using Heuristic Algorithms for 5G H-CRAN

摘要
The explosion of traffic demand combined with increasingly complex heterogeneous network (HetNet) infrastructures, has presented ever more challenges for mobile network operators such as QoS, autonomous network management and energy efficiency (EE). In this paper, we present an energy-efficient solution considering the Self-Organizing Network (SON) paradigm in 5G. Turning off small base stations (SBS) while maintaining a satisfactory level of QoS is a promising solution to enhance EE. Our solution is based on two heuristic algorithms: Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) to empower the Energy Saving SON function in order to increase EE. We model the problem as linear program that aims to find the optimal set of SBS can be turn off. Numerical results show the efficiency the heuristic algorithms, which effectively serve users's traffic requirement while reducing energy consumption.
