A note on IS teaching and research in German universities

For the 6(th) edition of the,,StudienFuhrer Wirtschaftsinformatik" (Information Systems - IS -student's guide) we performed a survey among all German universities (111 chairs), achieving a response rate of 100%. Since the 5(th) edition 1996 the number of chairs did not change substantially. The admission capacity rose from 1.440 to 2.100. The research activities are moving towards core IS subjects (e.g. Application Systems, particularly Financial Systems), whereas the areas more closely related to Computer Science (e.g. Software Engineering, Modelling, Object-Oriented Systems and Database Management) are loosing importance. 13 denominations of,,Electronic Commerce", not mentioned at all in 1996, shaw that this subject has become a major issue.
