CRITERIA AND SUGGESTIONS FOR THE RIGHT INTERPRETATION OF THE SCRIPTURES

This study aims at providing some guidelines on the right interpretation of the Bible in the Catholic Church. Following an introduction on the contributions of and progress regarding the sciences of interpretation, guidance is provided by the "Dei Verbum" Dogmatic Constitution of the Second Vatican Council and "The Interpretation of the Bible in the Catholic Church", a document issued by the Pontifical Biblical Commission. The methods of investigation are both analytical and synthetically. The synthesis comes in the last pages: some indications to the right interpretation expressed in negative and positive manner. The first finding of the research is the identifying of the most appropriate principles and methods for a more accurate understanding of the biblical text, in line with what God intends to communicate by his Word. So, we could discover the sense intended by the biblical author. More, we are able to find, a little beat of God's intention in the pages of Holy Scripture. The second finding is the discovery of a synthesis between the literary significance and the spiritual significance of the Scripture. This need of criteria for an adapted and accurate hermeneutics is even more obvious currently, considering the challenges presented by various sectors of contemporary culture, as well as by religious diversity.
