The comments on my target paper (Smedslund, this issue) are partly directed at the project of psychologic as a general enterprise, and partly at its applications to specific topics in the domain of memory. The sheer volume and richness of the commentaries (among which I have included a highly relevant review by Malle (1998)) has forced me to respond very selectively. However, I am indebted to each one of the commentators, and I have learned much more from them than is directly expressed in my responses. I first address the critiques of psychologic as a general project.
