Geometric improvements of light transmission at photonic crystal waveguide bends

摘要
The photonic crystal waveguide in general suffers from radiative loss due to defects such as a cavity or waveguide bends. We consider three different geometric structures for the waveguide bend and compare the degree of radiative losses, by using the three-dimensional FDTD calculation. We show that a hybrid-type structure mixing photonic-band-gap guidance and refractive-index guidance, is best for reducing radiative losses.
