Social responsibility of forest enterprises in the Czech Republic

Corporate Social Responsibility is a concept that has been known for several decades, especially in the field of management. However, its importance began to increase in recent years as a result of globalization and the economic crisis, which highlighted the need for corporate social responsibility. Sustainable development in all aspects of human activity at the moment seems to be the only perspective. The paper describes the general nature of corporate social responsibility and at the same time a debate is provided on approach to this issue in context of forest enterprises in the Czech Republic. The aim of this paper is to carry out a discussion on the principles of CSR application according to the theory. The basic pillars of CSR are economic, legal, ethical and voluntary (philanthropic) pillars. Selected forest enterprises that have different types of ownership of forest resources will be chosen for investigations in relation to the application of CSR principles, and to what extent they are applied. Based on the results, recommendation for enterprises to fulfill their social responsibility will be proposed.
