摘要：

This paper considers existing urban freight transport operations within the contest of the recent discussion about the sustainability of towns and cities. After examination of the importance of freight transport and logistics (both in terms of its role and its impacts) and the way in which it could be incorporated into urban sustainability strategies, a case study of freight transport in London is presented. The case study is designed to illustrate the environmental impacts caused by freight in a large city and also to model the effect of a range of strategies that could make freight transport more environmentally sustainable.
