Poppy Cultivation and Quality Characteristics of Selected Varieties in the Czech Republic

The three years specific accurate field experiments was verified influnce of variety and crop management practice on poppy seeds yield and content of morphine in popystraw. The content of morphine at particular varieties corresponded with their chemocultivar in the experiments. The highest content of morphine was determined at varieties Buddha and Lazur. The higher content of morpnihe at the varieties Buddha and Lazur was in negative correlation with the poppy seeds yield. The poppy seeds yield of these varieties were lower in comparison to the low morphine and medium morphine varieties. The genetic base of varieties has decisive influence to the yield, which is more or less modified by weather.
