摘要：

The aim of the article is to review the historical development of the volume, structure and importance of international reserves in providing the international liquidity. It defines the relationship between international liquidity and international reserves. It focuses on the major changes in the composition of international reserves, which are related to the demonetization of gold in the international monetary system, the use of different systems of exchange rates in different countries as well as attributing greater weight to the financial resources of the International Monetary Fund in creating international reserves and providing the international liquidity. It also deals with the impact of the recent global financial and economic crisis on international reserves.
