Psychometric Analysis of a Self-Directed Learning Scale Based on Garrison Self-Directed Learning Theory

This study reports the psychometric analysis of a self-directed learning scale. 381 students, enrolled in a college of education from a Chilean university, participated in the study. An exploratory factor analysis identified two, of the original three factors, which explains 64% of the variance. The internal consistency index reaches good levels for the general scale (alpha.844). The concurrent validity shows positive correlation of the scale with another scale of self-directed readiness (r = .891; p < 0,01), meanwhile the convergent validity, using a general self-efficacy scale is (r = .580; p < 0,01). The results propose that the scale can be used in Chile's population of preservice teachers to measure self-directed learning.
