O,O-Dialkyl and alkylene dithiophosphoric acids react with tetra-p-tolyltin (in 1:1 and 1:2 molar ratios) and tri-p-tolyltin chloride (in 1:1 molar ratio) in refluxing toluene to yield (p-CH3C6H4)(4-n)Sn[S2P(OR)(2)](n) (R = Bu-i, Ph) and (p-CH3C6H4)(4-n)Sn[S(2)POGO](n) (G = CH2CMe2CH2, CMe2CMe2) where n = 1,2. The complexes are white microcrystalline solids, soluble in common organic solvents and monomeric in nature. These have been characterized on the bases of elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations, IR and NMR (H-1, C-13, P-31 and Sn-119 NMR). Spectral data reveal cleavage reactions of tetra-p-tolyltin and tri-p-tolyltin chloride with dithiophosphate moieties.
