摘要
There are two primary types of human vision: peripheral vision, which is crucial for actions such as walking around a room crowed with obstacles, and foveal vision, which is crucial for actions such as reading. However, at present nearly all visual information displays use only foveal and not peripheral vision. We propose a new method of information display for peripheral vision, neither entailing nor interfering with foveal vision. The proposed information display is composed of blurred, swinging, and coarse 'will-o'-the-wisp' patterns, that are discriminable by peripheral vision and free from any effect on eye movement and accommodation. This method makes it possible to use peripheral vision as a channel for transmitting information to the observer without interfering with a main task that depends on foveal vision.
