摘要
American cultural diplomatic activities with China before the 1930s were largely conducted by American missionaries in the form of the propagation of the Gospel. Although deeply influenced by the pious belief of "religious duty" of Protestants, those missionaries objectively serve American foreign policy to Asia-Pacific Region. Thus, conclusion is reached that American cultural diplomatic activities with China before the 1930s manifest themselves both in the American diplomatic ideology of idealism and that of realism. American diplomatic ideology of idealism lies in Christians' dream of universalizing Christian doctrines and saving those pagans from suffering, while American diplomatic ideology of realism reflects in missionaries' work assisting American foreign policy of aggression.
