In this study, it is shown that derivation of the propagation properties of the mean reaction zone by analyzing the characteristic equations in the vicinity of the reactant side only is, in general, not sufficient. When countergradient diffusion (CGD) is present, the products side may also impose some constraint on the propagation velocity spectrum.
