Severe plastic deformation assisted carbide precipitation in Fe-21Cr-5Al alloy

摘要
FeCrAl alloys are promising materials for fuel cladding in light water reactors due to their high-temperature oxidation resistance in a steam environment. In this study, microstructural analysis revealed that Cr-C precipitation is enhanced in a severely plastically deformed (SPD) Fe-21Cr-5Al alloy [Kanthal-D (KD)], as compared to that in a coarse grained (CG) specimen. SPD was performed using equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) and high-pressure torsion (HPT). The enhanced precipitation is attributed to an increase in the volume fraction of grain boundaries (GB) and to enhanced diffusion owing to increased point defects during ECAP and HPT.
