摘要：
Without falling into the usual trap of older humanistic scholarship that viewed the ancient world as a mirror reflecting our own image, an analysis of different texts by Petronius, Ausonius, St. Augustine, and Prudentius, dealing with various aspects of the academic life of their times, reveals their extraordinary modernity: they describe teachers and students facing situations and problems very similar to those met by their present counterparts.
