Haiti is here: media, Haitian immigration and racism in Brazil

This article presents the results of a research oriented to the analysis of the narratives produced and disseminated between 2015 and 2017 in digital media spaces, created by Haitian immigrants in Brazil, emphasizing those narratives that seek to give visibility to their experiences in the scope of racial relations. The methodology includes the collection of a corpus of these narratives in digital media and 10 interviews with Haitian immigrants. The theoretical framework encompasses the interfaces between race relations, transnational migrations and the media. The results point out that the narratives show the recognition by the Haitians of the specificities that shape racial relations in Brazil as well as the impacts and ways of coping with racism in their migratory trajectories in the country.
