The external assessment of a degree and diploma program where the assignments are submitted in electronic form is discussed. The external scrutiny is centered upon a CD, which contains all the work submitted by students, all the feedback offered by tutors and the course and module documentation. The coursework is submitted electronically by the student, and once it has been assessed by the tutors, the program organizer prepares a spreadsheet that includes students' names, module names and marks achieved. So, instead of presenting the external assessor with a sample of coursework, she spends all coursework and thus gives him freedom to select his own sample. This external receives, by post, a CD as described, and he makes his own selection of the work he will scrutinize. It enables him to be more thorough, and hence more effective, and makes a much more efficient use of his time.
